Fallout 76 Will not be Released on Steam

At Bethesda Softworks has its own platform for running games – Bethesda.net. Do not be surprised that the company decided to trump its upcoming big premiere and make it an exclusive for the home site.

The Fallout website published a list of questions and answers about the beta version of Fallout 76. Among other things, there is a line: “BETA and the final version of the game will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC (only through Bethesda.net). ” Sensing something wrong, PC Gamer requested a comment from a representative of Bethesda and received confirmation: “PC version of Fallout 76(both BETA and the release version) will be available only through Bethesda.net, not via Steam. ”

Bethesda has previously promoted its platform in various ways. For example, Quake Champions in Bethesda.net is free, but on Steam, you are forced to buy one of the extended editions. Fallout Shelter for PC appeared in Bethesda.net in July 2016, and until Steam reached March 2017.

However, with major releases, Bethesda acted differently. Say, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and The Evil Within 2 came out on Steam, as usual, and if you buy in the store Bethesda.net DOOM or Prey, then you will be given keys for the platformValve. So, Fallout 76 at the moment can be considered a non-standard course on the part of the publisher.

PC Gamer notes that, perhaps, the exclusivity of Fallout 76 will be only temporary, and after a while, the game will still visit Steam. But no serious proof of this yet.

Fallout 76 is released on November 14. Beta testing should take place during October. And, as the official website of the game writes, all content will be available in the pre-assembly, and the accumulated progress will be preserved and will move to the release version.
