The Galaxy A8s also became the first mobile device manufacturer to lose its 3.5 mm analog headphone jack. We did not have time to write about the preliminary announcement of the frameless smartphone Honor View 20 with a hole for the front camera, as a similar device from Samsung – Galaxy A8s immediately arrived. And if for Honor this seemed to be a spontaneous decision, then for Samsung the Galaxy A8s presentation was planned. In fact, the new South Korean company has become the first for a manufacturer with a new Infinity-O display, and this is not its only feature. Unfortunately, it was not without drawbacks, but first things first.
The front and rear panels of the Galaxy A8s are made of glass with a metal frame around the perimeter of the case. The smartphone will be available on the market in three colors: Gradient Black (black), Elves Blue (blue) and Aurora Green (green). At the same time, the glass on the back side of the device has a 3D effect, so the color may vary depending on its position.
Galaxy A8s is equipped with a 6.4-inch display with an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9 and a resolution of 2340 × 1080 pixels. In the upper left corner is a hole for the camera. According to the manufacturer, in order for the camera not to be exposed to the screen, it was necessary to use a special technology, which Samsung, naturally, is silent about. The hole itself is not striking, thanks to a specially selected dark wallpaper for the desktop. However, on a white background, it looks, to put it mildly, not very.
The hardware platform of the device is the Snapdragon 710 chipset in combination with 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. On the back is a triple camera, the main module of which has a resolution of 24 megapixels and a wide-angle lens with an aperture of f / 1.7. The second module is represented by a 10-megapixel sensor with a f/2.0 aperture telephoto lens with dual optical zoom. The third 5 MP module is used to analyze the depth of the scene in real time. The front camera is wide-angle with a resolution of 24 megapixels. The rear panel also has a fingerprint scanner.
Galaxy A8s is running Android 8.1 Oreo with Samsung’s proprietary interface (probably, One UI). Battery capacity is 3300 mAh. For charging, the smartphone uses the USB-C port, but, unfortunately, the worst was confirmed – there is no 3.5 mm jack for headphones.
