Failure does not depend on the version of Windows 10 and the region. Microsoft is aware of the problem and promises to fix it within 24 hours.
Reddit users complained about the sudden failure of Windows 10 Pro activation. And many of them received a notification stating that their operating system from the Pro-version has evolved into Windows 10 Home.
“I have the same problem. The digital license just disappeared from my Microsoft account. Now Windows is deactivated, ostensibly because I switched from Windows 10 Pro to Home, and the key no longer fits. Where is she gone? I hope it will appear again, ”said one of the Reddit users.
Another user stated that he upgraded from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro several years ago when it could be done for free. Therefore, it does not have a product code for Windows 10 Pro. In technical support, he was asked to indicate the key to Windows 7 Pro, but since it was an OEM version, it did not fit.
Activation failure, apparently, does not depend on the version of Windows 10, the region and other factors. Apparently, the problem is on the side of Microsoft. Built-in troubleshooting tool does not help. It determines the digital license of Windows 10 Pro and reports that a version update is required, but the process immediately ends with an error.
Representatives of the company have already responded to user complaints by releasing an official statement:
“We are working on restoring product activation for a limited number of affected Windows 10 Pro clients.”
Later, Microsoft’s senior director Jeff Jones (Twitter) tweeted that user devices would be activated automatically within 24 hours. In the meantime, according to the Neowin website, some of the victims have already managed to manually activate the system. To do this, follow these steps:
- launch the Settings application (Windows + I);
- go to the “Update and Security” section, “Activation” item;
- Click the troubleshoot link, after which Windows should activate as usual.
