The new Mac mini in the same box, but with a more powerful iron

Six-core processor, security chip, up to 64 GB of RAM, up to 2 TB SSD-drive and much more. Apple has finally updated its Mac mini. For the first time since 2014, the company introduced a new model of its compact computer, equipping it with a quad-core (or six-core, depending on the version) Intel 8th generation processor and an additional T2 security chip.

Externally, the new product does not differ much from its predecessor. Perhaps only the color of the case makes it stand out from the Mac mini four years ago. Otherwise, it’s still the same small box made from fully recycled aluminum. Inside, in addition to the already specified processor, up to 64 GB of SO-DIMM memory, 2666 GHz and SSD-drive with a capacity of up to 2 TB are installed.

The new Mac mini delivers performance up to five times faster than its previous generation. The basic version of the computer is equipped with an Intel Core i3 3.6 GHz processor with Turbo Boost function, providing up to 4.6 GHz in overclocking mode, and Intel UHD graphics. According to the company, Mac mini now handles not only common tasks, such as photo and video editing, music creation and software development but also many workflows, including video transcoding, code compilation and live performances.

Mac mini is equipped with an Apple T2 chip, which ensures the security of the device and the data stored on it by encrypting it in real time, so everything that is stored on the SSD is automatically fully encrypted. Interface connectivity features include Gigabit Ethernet, four Thunderbolt 3 ports, one HDMI, two USB-A, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Mac mini will be available from November 7 in Apple retail stores and through authorized resellers. The cost of the computer starts at $799 for the basic version with an Intel Core i3 3.6 GHz processor, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB SSD.
